This was painted from a photograph I took of the sea on a bright but windy day at Westward Ho! In Devon.   The sea was crashing in and the power of the waves was stirring the sand through the pebbles in rivulets, making a constant swooshing sound as the breakers receded.  People were walking their dogs, and you can check out another painting on here called "Beach Walk", showing a long view across to the hills. This was painted on canvas block, which has more physical depth than an ordinary canvas, but I felt it needed a surround, so I put a black wood frame on it which makes the whole thing quite substantial.
