Here is a large watercolour painting featuring the breathtaking view from the central tower of Selby Abbey, looking down across the historic town along Gowthorpe. The inspiration for this painting came when I exhibited in the Abbey back in May. They were running tower tours, so I couldn't resist going up. If you don't mind a lot of steps, I highly recommend it—the sprawling panorama at the top is completely worth the climb! A little bit of local history: the two magnificent front towers you see in the foreground were actually left unfinished as simple ‘stumps’ for centuries. They were finally completed in 1935, completely transforming Selby's skyline—see the last photo.
