This was painted in July 1996, so I don't remember much about it, but I think it is a dinghy race or regatta on the North Norfolk coast, probably around Holkham or Burnham-over-Staithe, where we used to stay with friends. It looks like mixed dinghy racing on sheltered estuary waters. The narrow hulls and tall sails on some boats confirm a mixed-class race. There are no gaff rigs which would be more common on the Norfolk Broads. No-one is leaning in to the wind much, so it was probably the start of the race, or perhaps light wind conditions.
