After we had been to Abbotsbury Swannery in Dorset, we went for a walk across the fields to Chesil Bank, a narrow spit of shingle that stretches 8 miles. This boathouse was reflected in the waters of the Fleet, which separates the shingle ceosol from the mainland. It is not far from Moonfleet (Mohune on the Fleet), made famous by the children's story of smugglers and contraband hidden in graves, and it captures the same mysterious sense of isolation.
