Cronus (or Kronos)Cronus was the king of the gods before Zeus took over. He was a cruel father and swallowed five of his six current children (soon to be seven) because he was afraid that the prophecy would come true that he would be de-throned the same way he de-throned his father.

ZeusZeus was the king of the gods and guests. He had affairs with 8 goddesses other than his wife, Hera. He also had affairs with countless mortals and nymphs. Therefore, he is the cause of many myths. Zeus was also the god of the sky. His weapon was the thunderbolt. He succeeded his Father, Cronus to the throne.

PoseidonPoseidon was the god of the sea, and the brother of Zeus. He had an extremely irritable temper and was known for creating the horse. Being the god of the sea, he also controlled storms. His weapon was a trident.

HadesHades was the god of the Underworld, and the brother of Zeus. He had little mercy and did not like to allow any souls, living or dead, to exit the Underworld. Hades was very gloomy. He also had many riches, which were stored in the Underworld. He had a "Cap of Darkness" which many heroes asked to borrow because it made the wearer invisible.

DemeterDemeter was the goddess of growing plants and the sister of Zeus. Together, Demeter and Dionysus were considered gods of the harvest. She is the cause of the seasons. This happened when Hades stole Demeter's daughter, Persephone, to marry her. While Persephone was gone, winter was constant because Demeter was mourning. When Persephone was not with her mother she was banned from food of the underworld, but she ate six pomegranate seeds. She could only go back to her mother six months out of the year because of this. While Persephone is gone, Demeter mourns and winter comes. |

DionysusDionysus was the god of wine and grapes. He was often jovial, but could be dangerous if opposed. He had followers called Bacchantes who drank a lot of wine. Together, he and Demeter were called gods of the harvest.

AthenaAthena was the goddess of wisdom. She was the goddess of handicrafts and strategy. She did not like to fight, but when forced to, she always won. Athena hated Ares, (who fought offensively; whereas she fought defensively) and took pleasure in thwarting him on the battle field.

ApolloApollo was the god of light, hunting, music, disease, medicine and mainly prophecy. He also drove Helios' sun chariot across the sky.

ArtemisArtemis was the twin sister of Apollo. Known as a fierce hunter as well as protector, Artemis is one of the major Greek goddesses. She is known as the goddess of the night, the huntress, the goddess of fruitfulness, the goddess of childbirth, Lady of the Beasts, the woodland goddess, the bull goddess, the personification of the moon, and the eternal virgin. Artemis was one of the few goddesses immune to the enchantments of Aphrodite.

AphroditeAphrodite was the goddess of sexy love and beauty. She was very jealous, and anyone who thought and announced that they were more beautiful then her felt her anger; which often meant death.

ErosEros was the god of love. Unlike Aphrodite, he was the god of pure love. He has made his way into modern day Valentine's Day celebrations. Eros had arrows which could infect anyone pierced by them with love.

RheaRhea was the mother of six of the more recent gods. Her only true role was to be the wife of Cronus. Cronus did not wish to be over-taken, and therefore he swallowed four of his five current children, but Rhea saved Zeus and helped him to de-throne Cronus. Hera was born shortly after. |

HeraHera was the queen of the gods. She was very jealous, but with a husband like Zeus, who was her brother and was with other women six days a week, who could blame her? Hera was the goddess of marriage. When born, Hera grew up and ran away from Cronus - she was raised by the titans. |

HestiaHestia was the goddess of the hearth. She had only one temple, but was worshipped in every home by the fire. This also made her the goddess of the family. |

HermesHermes, the herald of the Olympian gods, is the son of Zeus and the nymph Maia, daughter of Atlas and one of the Pleiades. Hermes is the god of shepherds, land travel, merchants, weights and measures, oratory, literature, athletics and thieves, and known for his cunning and shrewdness. Most importantly, he is the messenger of the gods. He carries with him a winged trident. According to legend, Hermes was born in a cave on Mount Cyllene in Arcadia. Zeus had impregnated Maia (a nymph) at the dead of night while all other gods slept. |
