On the Centre Court at Wimbledon's All England Lawn Tennis Club, there is usually a shower or two at some time during Wimbledon fortnight. This was a sudden and unexpected downpour which caused the umbrellas to go up and the covers to be dragged hurriedly over the grass. I have painted several crowd scenes before with extreme detail in the faces, but this time I went for a rather more impressionist approach. I have included two close-ups in addition to the larger image as this is a large picture, three feet square. |
